THE recent story of a 13-year-old child in Queensland committing suicide is without doubt tragic news.
That the reason for his suicide was because he was bullied for being gay is something to consider incredibly seriously.
It is no great revelation that the recently elected mayor of this region Glenn Milne dislikes the Safe Schools Program.
On what is apparently his private Facebook page he has posted links to rather spurious and tenuous arguments against the program. Whether it be for religious or moral beliefs, I do not care.
On one of his posts he claimed “enough is enough”.
Well, I would like to pass this sentiment back to him.
I have read through the entire Safe Schools program to see if the mayor’s fear is in any way founded, and I am certain that it is not.
You are all free to read it online to come to your own conclusions.
I would like to see a statement now from the so-called leader of our community stating his thoughts whether the anti-
bullying program he hates so much might have saved the life of a 13-year-old child.
I call for discussion. Because, yes, I agree, enough is enough.
