Water report ‘flawed’

A PROMINENT irrigator has dismissed a report into the Murray-Darling Basin Plan’s impact on northern Victorian irrigation communities as “laughable” but Mildura Mayor Glenn Milne says concerns are mounting about the district’s water security.

A report commissioned by the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District Water Leadership Forum suggested Sunraysia could lose 15 per cent of its horticultural production in a drought scenario if the Basin Plan was fully rolled out.

Its release this week followed that of a Murray-Darling Basin Authority report linking water recovery with job losses in northern NSW and southern Queensland irrigation communities.
