Victorian Electoral Commission returning officer Trevor Leighton says voters have until this Friday evening to lodge their ballot paper.

LESS than a third of eligible voters had lodged their Mildura council election ballot papers as of yesterday morning.

About 9200 votes had been received by the Victorian Electoral Commission’s Mildura office by the weekend before another eight boxes of ballot slips were received yesterday, containing 2500 to 3000 votes, according to returning officer Trevor Leighton.

He expected about 1000 votes to arrive next week, after the official ballot closure, based on previous elections.
