SUNRAYSIA irrigators are lobbying for a change in the state’s carryover water rules after a spill of Hume Dam resulted in water losses worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In Parliament this week, Member for Mildura Peter Crisp asked Water Minister Lisa Neville to consider allowing irrigators with carryover water to access spill water instead of losing it from their accounts.

Under current arrangements, water in irrigators’ carryover accounts can be lost if there are spills while accounts can also be frozen if risks of spills are declared.
