Forum chance to outline vision

WE are living in exciting times.

I feel privileged to be in the midst of a growing field of candidates for the upcoming MRCC elections as outlined in Sunraysia Daily’s article “Field of candidates growing” (September 15).

The rising interest in representing the municipality and council alike and the buzz on the street indicates the community is ready for a shake-up.

However, I am wondering if the community is having trouble keeping up with the who, what and why of it all.

Historically, all candidates have been invited to present at a public forum, giving interested voters an opportunity to listen to each nominee outline their vision for our municipality.

Over the past month, community members have asked whether I was aware of any plans of the forum “coming back”, lamenting its disappearance at the last elections.

Last week I spoke to Sunraysia Daily and was informed it had plans to reintroduce the forum in early October, once a definitive list of candidates is released.

I would fully support the opportunity to hear from both renominating and aspiring candidates, and relish the opportunity to do so myself.
