THE day is approaching when the Cristal Mine will cease operating.
This will create a $13 million budget problem for Wentworth Shire, not including loss of rate income.
This has been created because the council has not enforced the road construction certificate contract-agreement for the 64km Cristal Haul Road.
It is predicted the mine will close in five years, making the $13 million a problem for the new council.
It would be difficult in this letter to explain the technicalities of the construction certificate liabilities, however, the issue was raised with council representatives before the recent election.
It is appropriate for the new council and the ratepayers to be fully briefed on this issue.
It may require a special rate to pay for it.
