Regional road network ‘in crisis’

THE State Opposition has accused the Victorian Government of “backing away” from its election commitment to provide $1 billion over eight years to outer suburban and regional roads.

Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Rural and Regional Transport Simon Ramsay said councils across regional Victoria were receiving mixed messages that the government was considering reducing its pledge to $500 million over six years.

“This is an absolute disgrace when clearly regional roads are crumbling before our eyes,” Mr Ramsay said.
