When the siren sounded late on Saturday afternoon, it felt like the entire Mallee community shouted as one, with the Ouyen United Kangas claiming their maiden Senior SFNL flag – in their debut season.

The 29-point win over favourites Mildura capped off a brilliant year for a club born of an off-season merger between fierce rivals Ouyen United and Walpeup-Underbool.

Both clubs were part of the Mallee Football League until its demise at the end of 2015.
