NEARLY 300 lawn bowlers will take to Sunraysia’s greens over the next two days to honour the late great Dot Jenkinson.
Jenkinson is considered one of, if not the greatest ever female bowler in Sunraysia, having achieved a World Championship Fours win, six Australian Championships Fours wins and 22 Singles Club Championship wins at her Red Cliffs Bowls Club.
The Dot Jenkinson Pairs tournament, which is a ladies-only competition, is now in its 16th year and celebrates Jenkinson’s 40-year lawn bowls career.
This year, 144 teams will travel from across Victoria, South Australia and NSW to compete in the Dot Jenkinson Pairs at the Irymple, Merbein, Mildura, Red Cliffs and Working Man’s bowls clubs.
Pairs who win three games tomorrow and two on Friday morning will go into the finals on Friday afternoon.
Sunraysia Bowls secretary Joy Jones said players were attracted by the $5400 prize purse.
“There’s $1000 each for the
winners, $500 for second, $300 for third and fourth, and there’s $100 down to tenth,” Jones said.
“It’s good quality bowls to start with, but then we finish off with our presentation dinner.
