Hard sell for winter sun: ‘We don’t have tourist attractions,’ says Thorburn

THE joys of holidaying in Mil­dura during winter will be beamed into Melbourne lounge rooms this year after councillors voted to give ­Mildura Tourism $50,000 for its “winter sun” television ad campaign.

The money will enable Mil­dura Tourism to purchase between 130 and 150 ad slots on one of the three commercial TV networks during June and July, showcasing Mil­dura’s warmer winter weather to Melburnians.

But Cr Max Thorburn said the advertising campaign would be the “greatest waste of money we have ever had” because there was “virtually nothing” to see in Mildura.
