New riverfront plan on target

MILDURA’S riverfront progress is well and truly under way, with plenty of positive input from community groups.

The new riverfront precinct will eventually connect the river, marina, CBD and arts precinct and renew opportunities for tourism, recreation and economic development in the region.

Mildura Rural City Council’s community reference group this week gathered to discuss ideas to ensure the final design for the $13.3 million project meets community needs

The cultural recreation area, from the Powerhouse to the wharf and down to The Nowingi Place, looks set to be complete by the end of next year, according to the community reference group chair John Arnold.

Cr Arnold said the meeting on Wednesday night was “very successful” with “all of the representatives from each group in attendance”.

“Everyone was enthusiastic and very positive and keen to be working together,” Cr Arnold said.

“We want to work together and make it happen – we have talked about this for a long time.

“All the planning will be done in the next three months and the first works will start about the end of October.”
