Amy’s drawings  amaze: Chosen for US book

A YOUNG illustrator from Gol Gol Public School will soon have her drawing published in the US.

Year 6 student Amy Cottrell was the only Australian out of 13 children internationally to have her work selected for a children’s book to be published next month.

Author Nancy O’Neill ran a competition inviting entrants from all over the world to submit drawings, with the winning submissions to feature as illustrations in the book, entitled Guess What is at the North Pole?

Gol Gol Public School’s Janelle Lee, upon hearing of the opportunity, encouraged the “very talented” Amy to participate.

“Mrs Lee got an email and she thought I might be interested so she sent all the information to me and I started drawing pictures,” Amy said.

Given a list of 13 things to choose from, Amy initially drew a picture featuring a reindeer.

Another entrant’s reindeer drawing was chosen, but the book’s author was so impressed by Amy’s drawing that she contacted Mrs Lee and asked for the 12-year-old to submit another entry.

This time she drew a picture featuring a little girl and a snowman and that drawing was chosen to feature.
