NINE NSW Police members in the Barrier Local Area Command (LAC) were recognised for their dedication and service to the force at a ceremony in Coomealla this week.
Ten Dareton police officers were flanked by their families and special guests, Victoria Police Division Six Western Region Superintendent Paul Naylor and Wentworth Shire Mayor Don McKinnon.
Master of ceremonies Senior Constable Richard Liston did a “welcome to country” before announcing the officers.
“Today we gather to recognise members of the NSW Police Force who have made a significant contribution to NSW in maintaining the peace and good order of our society,” Sen-Constable Liston said.
“The awards that will be presented today are a tangible recognition of the valuable achievements of these men.”
Barrier LAC Superintendent Murray Reynolds congratulated each officer and handed them their medals.
“It’s great to have family here today to see the significance of these awards,” Supt Reynolds said.
THE National Police Service Medal recognises the special status sworn police officers have because of their role protecting the community.
The National Medal and Clasps are awarded to members of all Australian Police Forces, Australian Ambulance Services, Australian Fire Brigades, Australian Correctional Services, State Emergency Service, and other eligible organisations who have completed 15 years of diligent service to the community in hazardous circumstances.
The NSW Police Medal is awarded to sworn members of the NSW Police Force who have completed 10 years of diligent and ethical service.
The Commissioner’s Sesquicentenary 150th Citation award is given to all sworn and unsworn members employed with the NSW Police Force between March 1, 2012 to February 28, 2013.
The Warrant of Appointment is awarded to any member who is promoted to the rank of Sergeant or Senior Sergeant.
The Local Area Commander’s Award is for a member who has shown initiative.
