The Australian soprano was recently awarded the Prize of the International Media-Jury in the final of the 2014 Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition, held at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Germany, on July 6.

Stagg was one of 140 finalists shortlisted from 1300 online entries of 60 different countries.

The finals consisted of a week-long competition process that saw her reach the grand final on July 6.

After living in Berlin for the past 11 months, Stagg said it was the icing on the cake of an enriching experience.

“Competitions such as this provide great international exposure for singers; many of the judging panels are made up of casting directors from across the world, so it’s almost like doing 15 separate auditions,” she said.

“It’s a privilege in itself to be in the finals, performing in a huge, beautiful opera house, with a huge symphony orchestra.”
