Youth funding: $400k boost for leadership program

A PROGRAM will be established to help develop young leaders in the region thanks to $400,000 in Victorian Government funding announced yesterday.

The Mildura and District Education Council (MADEC) will introduce the Northern Loddon Mallee Leadership Program next year.

The program forms part of the government’s $6 million Regional Community Leadership Program, which helps facilitate leadership courses over regional Victoria.

The State Government funding will span four years.

Mildura Rural City Council will contribute $35,000, while $53,000 will come from business funding.

Deputy Premier Peter Ryan said the program would involve more than 70 activities, catering for about 60 participants, with more than 100 people involved as volunteers.

“These programs are vital to the future of our regional areas and it’s why we have supported them right across the regions of the state,” Mr Ryan said.

Mr Ryan said the funding would help develop a large pool of skilled leaders to participate in local, regional, state and national organisations.

“If we can identify those people, give them assistance with training, it is all the better,” he said.
