Festival numbers blossom: Robinvale welcomed a record crowd for the town’s annual almond event

A RECORD crowd flocked to Robinvale for the fifth annual Mallee Almond Blossom Festival yesterday.

The Mallee district showcased its produce, with stall holders coming from everywhere between Mildura and Swan Hill.

About 6000 people, double last year’s crowd, brought the town alive.

Festival spokesperson Sue Kelly said organisers were overwhelmed by support.

“We are very, very pleased with how it has all been going,” Mrs Kelly said.

“The weather has been beautiful for us and we are estimating about 6000 people at the festival this year, which is a record for the five-year-event.

“This year we have had two tour-buses taking people through the grapevines, almond plantations, cracking plant and carrot farm, every 45-minutes and each time the bus was packed with people.

“It is so pleasing to see, from what we started with five years ago, when the industries weren’t doing that well with the drought; and morale was low.
