Tree-mendous eco centre day

MORE than 400 trees were planted to mark the first day of community activities at the Mildura Eco Living Park yesterday.

More than 50 people attended the event, which featured tree planting, mulching and plant propagation and recycled art as well as sustainable living, worm farm and recycled plant pot workshops.

Melanie Bell, part of Mildura Rural City Council’s environmental sustainability unit, said the day was run as a National Tree Day event, with community members invited to plant native vegetation along the fence line of the park adjoining Mildura Landfill.

“It’s a council site, but the Sunraysia Sustainability Network will run the park,” Mrs Bell said.

“There’s probably a bit of interest in it because it’s been talked about since it got funding about two years ago.”

Mrs Bell said almost $300,000 from the Victorian Government’s Sustainability Fund would be used to build the Mildura Eco Living Centre on the park site.
