Cask tourist attraction to go

THE Big Cask at Buronga will disappear on Monday in a “rebranding” effort by owner Accolade Wines.

The Big Cask is in fact a shed painted to look like a Stanley Wines cask and has been a minor tourist attraction on the Silver City Highway between Buronga and Dareton.

Until June last year Accolade Wines was known as Constellation Brands and has been changing its packaging under the new name.

Group public relations manager Anita Poddar, based in Adelaide, said the Big Cask would be repainted to just be a big shed.

“It’s just it was painted to look like a cask and our casks don’t look like that anymore,” Ms Poddar said.

“We’ve taken the decision that you’ve got to be consistent in your branding.

“It doesn’t represent our brands.”

Mildura Tourism CEO Rod Trowbridge said the Big Cask had some novelty value for passing tourists but it would not be missed.

“Life will go on,” he said.
