DRUG offences and family violence continue to be the biggest challenges faced by Mildura Police, according to the latest Victoria Police crime statistics for the region.
Overall crime in the Mildura Police Service Area (PSA) rose by just 6.3 per cent per 100,000 population for the 12 months to September, but there was a 24.2 per cent increase in drug offences in that period.
Mildura Police Inspector Simon Clemence said drug offence statistics were “driven by police” because they reflected “the amount of work” being done in that area.
“One of the emerging and significant drivers of crime in Mildura is the drug ‘ice’, and we have been working very hard in that area to damage this trade, resulting in many more arrests, which have pushed these crime statistics up,” he said.
