Band set for battle: Locals hope hometown final will give them the edge

MILDURA will host the regional final of Battle of the Bands tonight, with local band Estate hoping to gain the title.

The Mallee Wimmera FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands Regional Final will be held in Langtree Mall.

The event showcases the young and upcoming talent of Victorian performers as they battle it out for the top title.

The winner of the regional final will go on to compete at the annual Push Over Festival next March at the Abbotsford Convent, vying for the competition’s grand prize and the title of state winner.

The headline act at the Mildura event will be Belle Haven, a unique and increasingly popular metalcore act from the north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

The band, made up of bass guitarist Dylan Samaras, vocalist Jazz Carruthers, guitarists Oliver White and Sam Ferrett and drummer Daniel Murphy-Clarke, will battle it out against St Arnaud’s Brutal Assault.

Estate, previously known as I, The Beholder, came out on top in the local finals back in April against five other bands.

As their first time performing in Battle of the Bands, they feel lucky to be where they are now.

“Since April, we have switched things up with a new member, Sam Ferret, and a new name,” Carruthers said.

“We were stoked to get through in April and we pretty much practised every day for two weeks but in the end it was worth it.”

The five-piece band will have the hometown advantage and hope it will help them secure the regional win.
