Students' talent in the spotlight

THE talents of Merbein P-10 College performing arts students will be showcased at the Mercy Theatre tonight.

About 90 dance, drama and music students will take the stage from 6pm for the two-hour show, called Merbein in Lights.

Drama teacher Amanda Gratton yesterday said it would feature students in years 7 to 10, as well as a primary choir.

“The school puts on a community performance every second year,” she said.

“It gives the students a chance to perform, and so the community can see what we’re doing as well.”

Mrs Gratton said the drama students had even written their own slapstick comedy plays, which they had been rehearsing for months.

Year 9 drama students Rhiannon Curtis, 14, Sharnie Stimm, 14, and Dean Pascoe, 15, will star in a play called The Confused Marriage.

Tickets can be bought at the door and cost $5 for adults, $2.50 for children and $10 for a family (two adults and two children).
