THE youngest member of the fast-developing Walker cycling dynasty – Nicholas Walker – was rewarded for persistence with a grinding victory in the 11th stage of the Elgas Tour of the Murray River yesterday.
Nicholas, 21, toppled Malaysian speedster Harrif Saleh and the consistent New South Welshman Scott Law in the 86.5-kilometre stage from Ouyen to Patchewollock and back.
Walker’s two brothers William, 24, and Johnnie, 23, are also well and truly in the cycling spotlight this week.
Johnnie is currently riding the Tour of Spain with the Spanish-based Footon-Servetto team while William, who won the 2006 Australian open road championship, is managing the Malaysian team in the Murray tour and is enjoying some spectacular results.
