THE Mildura Basketball Association did not overstep its authority by forcing two clubs to suspend the instigators of an ugly brawl last month, according to president Leigh Anderson.
Irymple’s Nigel Pavilach and Workers’ David Meyer were both suspended for the remainder of the season by their clubs after the MBA board threatened the clubs with further sanctions if nothing was done.
Pavilach and Meyer were among 10 players from both clubs involved in an all-in brawl during their men’s A Grade match in February.
The players were reported by the referees but all 10 escaped suspension from the independent tribunal.
It was following the tribunal decision that the board stepped in, but Anderson said they were not over-ruling the outcome of the hearing.
