NATIONAL motorsport will return to Sea Lake for the first time since 1999, after the Sea Lake Off Road Club secured the first round of the 2012 Australian Off Road Championship for the Queen’s Birthday weekend.
Sea Lake Off Road Club clerk of course Joe Marshall said the return of the national round was a major coup for both the club and the local community.
“We’ve got one of the best ratios in the country for the population and those involved in off-road racing ... it’s been a bit of a stronghold and the whole town gets behind it,” Marshall said.
“We’re hoping to get well over 100 entrants, so with competitors, spectators and officials there will be hundreds if not thousands coming to Sea Lake.
“One of the great things about Sea Lake is we promote our camping ... it brings a great atmosphere and it’s a legacy of the town.”
Buloke Mayor David Pollard said the added publicity from hosting a national round would help build the profile of the shire.
“It’ll hopefully give some economic advantages to Sea Lake and the communities up there.”
