Nitonic gets 50kg in Cup

03 Sep, 2010 05:00 AM
LOCALLY trained Melbourne Cup nominee Nitonic has been allocated 50kg by Racing Victoria handicapper Greg Carpenter.

The nine-year-old gelding was among 256 horses handicapped on Wednesday for this year’s 150th running of the Cup.

Equal top weights for the race are 2007 winner Efficient and former European stayer Alandi, both on 58kg.

Last year’s winner Shocking was allotted 57kg, while the Bart Cummings’-trained 2009 Cox Plate winner So You Think will carry 56kg.

Among the lightweights, early Caulfield Cup favourite Moudre received 51kg.

Nitonic, sixth in this year’s Adelaide Cup over the same 3200-metre distance as the Melbourne Cup, had his second start back from a lengthy spell on Wednesday at Balaklava.
