The annual Josh Herrick tribute Twenty20 match will be played this Sunday at the Number One Oval.
There will be an under-16 Twenty20 curtain raiser at 10am, before the main game at 1pm between the Red Cliffs Cricket Association side and Mildura East.
Herrick lost his brave battle to cancer two years ago, with the combined RCCA side and Mildura East deciding to play off for the Josh Herrick Memorial Trophy as a tribute to the keen cricket fan.
Josh’s father, Paul Herrick, who is involved with the RCCA umpire’s association, will umpire the senior game.
After winning the inaugural game last year, RCCA representative Jason Finch said the side hoped to replicate last year’s performance against a competitive Mildura East unit.
“With the side that we have named, we are going to be pretty competitive if everyone that we have named shows up,” Finch said.
“I used to play cricket with Josh’s old man so it will be good for him to get out there,” he said.
Finch said the two sides were hopeful of a good crowd getting behind the teams.
“Last year we had a good crowd out at Red Cliffs so we would be hoping for the same again this year,” he said.
“Hopefully it keeps getting stronger each year and we can get a good crowd there on Sunday.”
