 Keep shows his class

Keep shows his class

31 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
Strong fields in both the senior grades entertained the good crowd with some spectacular and close racing at Mildura’s first round of the King of the Murray, Stadium Motocross, on Saturday night.

A wonderful race track, groomed to perfection and dressed by some overnight rain, provided riders with great conditions.

Riders blasted their way around the new, more technical layout of the Olympic Park venue.

In the senior open class, Swan Hill rider Brenton Keep took the honours from Myrtleford rider Kane Scanlon and Ouyen’s Nathan Trigg.

These three riders were never more than a few metres apart as they challenged each other and used the track to full advantage.

Keep, who ranks third in Victoria, showed his absolute class driving hard at all times.

He only faltered in one race, falling when pressured heavily by the younger Scanlon, but Trigg was always close by, waiting for either of the pair to make a slight wrong choice of race line.

Local rider, Josh Murtagh was also in the mix, with Shaun Johnson and Dan Marshall in the lead group on most occasions.

Riders further down the list were well led in the C-grade competition by Evan Lampard and Taylor Doherty.

Trigg also dominated the lite class as well as the Riverland’s Josh Spanos, who along with Todd Jarratt, from Hay, gave a wonderful display of manoeuvring their more nimble machines around the circuit.

Trigg showed his ability to keep excellent corner speed and get his wheels in line, just slightly before the others, with Spanos looking from behind on many occasions.

Local rider Cody Ryan, Keon Attard and Lee Mayers headed the C-grade in the lite class, with local rider James Bate, having his best night so far with an excellent fourth place in that division.

The top end of the junior class was dominated by Josef Oliver and Jorden Waters, Nicolas Day and Jacob Gleeson.

The older division of the 85cc class saw Josef Oliver and Jacob Williams finish even on points, with Oliver taking the win on a count back, by winning the final round heat.

The smaller wheel, and younger group on the 85cc machines, was led by Toby Marshall from Liam Dinnage.

Dinnage again featured in the top two in the 65cc class, finishing in second place behind visitor Cody Meullenmeester, who was probably the most impressive rider in the meeting.
