BENDIGO trainer Glenn Douglas has been absent at meetings in the northern region recently but he has a big team competing at the Nyah Harness Racing meeting tonight.
Douglas was once again successful in winning the Victorian trainers premiership for the 2009-10 racing season after achieving a winning treble at the final meeting at Ballarat last week to take his winning tally to 129 for the year.
Douglas’ brother Daryl once again dominated the driving scene with 322 wins to be crowned the Australian driving champion.
The successful partnership can start the new racing season on a winning note as Turbo Tate will be hard to beat in the Woodlands Stud Supporting Nyah Pace.
Turbo Tate is a former New Zealand pacer who came across the Tasman with four wins from 25 outings.
The five-year-old resumed from a short spell to finish sixth at Harold Park last month and then showed the benefit of added fitness to lead all-the-way at Geelong six days later after running the last half mile in a slick 57.7 seconds.
Turbo Tate will be further improved with racing at Nyah tonight and from barrier four he can continue on his winning way.
He will have plenty of opposition from the well drawn Smooth who is nearing another victory, while Toast Mee and Trinita Road have recent winning form and will run well again in a tough race on the program.
Kialla trainer John Hallam is making the trek north to Nyah tonight and he could win the first two races with Lifes A Lombo and Dynamic Diamond. Both horses will be driven by Daryl Douglas.
