Dry, dusty oval ‘not up to scratch’ for footy

MILDURA Rural City Council have two months to bring a dry Mildura City Oval up to scratch for football season.

While the ground is currently suitable for cricket, there are large patches of dead grass and dust due to hot weather and a lack of sprinkler coverage.

Sunraysia Football and Netball League president Peter Congress visited the ground yesterday and said he would work with council and the Sunraysia Cricket Association to have the oval ready when footy starts on April 2.

“Those patches signal to me the water coverage is not quite up to scratch,” he said.

“Although it’s far from acceptable, it is fixable. There’s a lack of sprinkler coverage so we need to look at where it’s dry.
