COOMEALLA GC

On Wednesday, February 1, ladies played stableford and the men played stableford for the monthly mug.

The winner of the ladies stableford was Marg Sprague with 38 points from Sue Jones on 37 points.

The winner of the men’s stableford in A Grade was Jeff Chalmers with 40 points from Richard Bryans with 38 points.

The B Grade winner was Lindsay Harris with 42 points from Tim Knight with 40 points.

The winner of the monthly mug was Lindsay Harris with 42 points.

NTPs were G. McLellan on the Zilzie Wines third (96cm); R. Moore on the Langtree Avenue Butchers seventh (114cm); J. McAskill on the Chemdry 11th (540cm); and H. Glasgow the Trentham Wines 18th (521cm).

Golf balls went from 42 points to 35 points on countback.

Friday, January 3, was back-nine medley stableford.

The winner was Ross Robertson with 23 points from David B Tierney with 21 points.

NTPs were R. Robertson on the Chemdry 11th (815cm); and D. Tierney on the Trentham Wines 18th (363cm).

On Saturday, February 4, the ladies played a single stableford event.

The Division One winner was Carol Miatke with 40 points from Ros Hocking with 38 points.

NTPs for the ladies were C. Miatke on the NAB Agribusiness third (22cm); R. Hocking on the Sunraysia Chickens seventh (420cm); H. Thomas on the Buronga Bake 11th (800cm); and F. Richardson on the Trentham Wines 18th (84cm).

Balls went to Heather Thomas and Frann Sette.

The men played a single stableford event for the fifth round of the summer cup.

With a good field of 97 players and visitors from as far away as Westwood Ho Golf Club in Adelaide, the winner in A Grade was Archie Parameshwaran with 39 points on countback from second place Matty Adams with 39 points also.

The B Grade winner was Carlo Longeri with 41 points from Frank Argiro with 40 points.

The C Grade winner was Barry Cock with 39 points from Darryn Taylor with 38 points.

NTPs for men were P. Bell on the Zilzie Wines third (450cm); J. Taylor on the Langtree Avenue Butchers seventh (70cm); K. Hollis on the Chemdry 11th (221cm); and P. Bell on the Trentham Wines 18th (80cm).

Golf balls went from 41 points to 34 points on countback.

Sunday, February 5, was a medley stableford. The winner was Kim Hensgen with 39 points from second place Dan Byrnes with 37 points. NTPs were G. Toma on the Zilzie Wines third (700cm); G. Marshall on the Chemdry 11th (300cm); and N. Bryant on the Trentham Wines 18th (950cm).

Balls went from 39 points to 33 points.

Today, the men play stableford and the ladies have a single stableford competition on the back nine.

Friday, February 10, is medley stableford on the back nine. Saturday, February 11, the ladies play a single stableford and the men have a stroke event for NAB Monthly Medal. Sunday, February 12, is a medley stableford. Wednesday, February 15, the men have stableford and the ladies play stableford on the back nine.

MERBEIN GC

The ladies played a stableford event on February 1 with Beryl Ryan the winner on 30 points.

Runner-up was L. Doering on 28 points.

Saturday, February 4, saw the ladies play a nine-hole stableford with Beryl Ryan the winner on 18 points. Runner-up was Bev Cetinich on 15 points.

January 29 was a nine-hole stableford event for the men with Jim Piper the winner on 19 points. Jason Pope was runner-up with 17.

The men played a stableford round on February 1 with Gav Hocking shooting the lights out – 43 points.

Balls went to Bernie Dean on 40 points, Col Lang on 37 and Frank Drayton on 35.

Fishers Friday night nine-hole competition was won by Glen Wallace on 22 points. Runner-up was Graham Kerr on an unlucky 21 points.

Saturday, February 4, was monthly medal with day winner Ryan Teasdale shooting an excellent 82/66 with his new CG16 golf sticks. Medal winner was Jason Pope on 91/71. Balls went to Ken Matulic 82/71, Len Lawlor 88/71 and Charlie Simpson 87/73. NTP went to F. Drayton, Tosh, Nick, Merv, Aaron and Cheese.

Today is stroke and Saturday is 4BWB so get your partners organised.

MILDURA GC

THERE are some easy golf games coming up in the next week.

Today is a par event for the men. The nine-hole Trilogy medley stableford is on Friday, February 10; and a men’s single stableford is on Saturday, February 11.

The ladies celebrated the end of January with a game of single stableford, which was won by Mandy Bothroyd with a handy score of 40 points.

Diana Smithers was second on 39, and Eily Raeck was third with 34.

The men’s monthly mug on Wednesday, February 1, had a field of 82 players in two grades, and balls went on countback to those with nett 71 or better.

Chris Ashworth is in good form, and scored 79 nett 66 to win A grade from Cliff Ferguson (77/67) and Gary Smart (82/68).

In B Grade, the winner was James Hancock (96/69); second was Wayne Dahmes (88/69), and veteran George Scholl scored 93/70 for third place.

P. Leonard won the Deakin Estate NTP on the first (110 cm); T. Verbeek won on the sixth (248 cm); G. Smart won on the Coca Cola 11th (280 cm); C. Hagenbach had a lucky shot to win the Zilzie Wine and the PIG on the 14th (15 cm); and A. Figg won on the Chateau Mildura 18th (910 cm).

The Trilogy nine-hole medley stableford on February 3 attracted 68 players.

Cameron Burr was the happy winner on 22 points, from Ernie Tyrrell and David Miles on 21. Balls went on countback to those players with 18 points or better.

The Terri’s Cleaning prizes were won by Noel Rodgers on the 11th hole (73 cm); Ron Leamon on the 14th hole (162 cm), and Mandy Bothroyd on the 18th (436 cm).

The monthly medal field on Saturday, February 4, had 138 players and the competition was a single stroke in three grades.

A Grade was won by Matt Morrison with a score of 69 nett 68.

Tom Crouch was second with 79/70, just beating Shay Toma (74/70) on countback.

In B Grade, Roy Cubit scored 85/69 to win from Lee Sutherland (85/71) and Matt Button (83/71).

The score of the day was in C Grade, where youngster Patrick Gray scored 89 nett 61, thereby seriously reducing his handicap.

Jeff Scott had a great round of 93/66, but had to settle for second place, and Sanjay Saluja was third with a good round of 91/70.

The NTPs were won by E. Jenner on the Deakin Estate first (160 cm); J. Keogh on the Water Wizard sixth (42 cm); T. Crouch on the Coca Cola 11th (34 cm) and followed it up with the Zilzie Wine and the PIG (116 cm) on the 14th hole; and M. Button took the Chateau Mildura prize on the 18th (48 cm).

Hot and windy weather reduced the field and the scores on Sunday, February 5.

The game was a medley single stableford and the winner was Eily Raeck with 35 points, from Eric Jenner on 34 and Ange Meyer on 33. Balls went to 32 on countback.

A field of 33 veterans appreciated the cool weather and a course in excellent condition on Monday, February 6.

Peter Rhodes scored 41 points to win from Cliff Ferguson on 40 and Milton Appleyard on 38. After that the scores dropped a bit and balls went on countback to players who scored 32 or better.

RED CLIFFS GC

Wednesday, February 1, was a medley stableford.

The A Grade winner was Russell Abraham on 38 points from runner-up Neville Birch on 31 points.

The B Grade winner was Russell Walsh on 36 points from runner-up Sue Poole. NTPs went to G. Smith on the eighth, S. Jones on the 15th and S. Johns on the 17th. Ball competition winners were R. Abraham, R. Walsh, S. Poole, G. Smith, G. Butler, B. Milner, R. Cupper, and K. Cattanach on countback.

The Friday night nine-hole competition winner was Rohan Hillier on 20 points.

Runner-up was Michael Timms 18 points on countback.

Ball competition winners were Rohan, Michael and Bob Merlin.

Saturday, February 4, was a stroke event for the monthly medal.

The A Grade winner was Keith Rogers on 85/14/71 from runner-up Darren McMannix with 74/5/69. The B Grade winner was Bryan Milner on 96/25/71 from runner-up Vern Markham 90/19/71. The C Grade winner was Gary Aitken on 101/29/72 from runner-up Shirley Case 106/31/75.

NTPs went to T. Walker on the first and fifth, J. McPhee on the fifth, M. Payne and S. Blagus on the eighth, J. McPhee on the ninth, D. Mannix on the 12th, S. Blagus on the 15th, D. Mannix on the 17, and N. Wilkie on the 18th. Ball competition winners were Darren, Keith, Bryan, Vern, J. McPhee, N. Wilkie, G. Duffy, G. Aitken, G. Frost, P. Robert, E. Johns, S. Blagus and S. Case.

Today is a medley stableford.

Saturday’s game is a stroke for summer medley Medallist of the Year.

Sunday is a medley stableford for the 13th round of the summer cup.

RIVERSIDE GC

On Tuesday, January 31, the women contested a nine-hole stableford event, which was won by Elaine Higgins on 19 points.

Ball competition winners were E. Higgins, F. Turlan, V. Easterbrook, R. Veit.

NTPs went to H. Moser on the Sunbeam Fruits fourth (318cm) and V. Easterbrook on the Centro Mallee Burger hole (652cm).

Wednesday, February 1, was a men’s stableford event.

The A Grade winner was Chris Nugent on 43 points from Michael Golitschenko on 41. B Grade was won by Bill Baker with a round of 40 points on a countback from Rhys Webb on 40 points.

NTPs went to M. Bayne on the Zilzie Wines fourth (58cms); A. Davis on the Cookes Pools and Spas seventh (108cms); M. Faulkhead on the Chateau Mildura Winery 12th (500cms); T. Paterson on the Sunbeam 17th (second shot 64cms); and M. Faulkhead on the Deakin Estate Wines 18th (68cms).

Ball competition winners were C. Nugent, M. Golitschenko, B. Baker, R. Webb, B. Marr, J. Smith, J. Slatter, K. Hornsby, A. Diwell, G. Butcher, A. McMaster, K. Eastwood, N. Murray, R. Cottle, J. Donaldson, G. Chandler and S. Raiti.

Thursday, February 2, was a par competition. The winner was Barb Hart on +3 from Linda Dickson on +2.

Balls went to B. Hart, L. Dickson, S. Watson, E. Higgins, K. Ballantyne, G. Briggs.

NTPs went to L. Palmer on the Cinema Deakin fourth (138cms); E. Higgins on the Alluring Lace seventh (202cms); H. Burke on the Sunraysia Golf Range 12th (second shot 240cms); and V. Wakefield on Wagners Butchery 18th (second shot 68cms).

On Friday, February 3, the nine-hole twilight competition was won by Justin Lane on 22 points on a countback from Tom Wilkinson also on 22.

Saturday, February 4, was a stableford for both men and women. The women’s winner was Val Easterbrook with 36 points on a countback from Sheryl Maddren also on 36. Balls went to V. Easterbrook, S. Maddren, M. Thompson and L. Dickson.

NTPs went to H. Burke on the Chickens on Deakin fourth (580cms); M. Adair on the Oasis Auto 12th (second shot 222cms); and L. Nott on the Davo’s Takeaway 18th (second shot 49cms).

In the men’s competition, A Grade was won by John Thomson with a round of 41 points, with Ben Hogan runner-up on 39.

B Grade winner was Kevin Challis on 43 points from Ken Hornsby on 40.

NTPs went to J. Thomson on the Sth Cross Business Advisors fourth (132cms); S. Mensch on the Cookes Pools and Spas seventh (370cms); A. Cattanach on the Chateau Mildura Winery 12th (375cms); B. Hogan on the Coca Cola 17th (second shot 28cms); J. Violi on the Deakin Estate 18th (294cms);

The Sunday, January 29, medley stableford was won by Steve Turlan on 40 points on a countback from Murray Wilson, also on 40.

Balls went to to S. Turlan, M. Wilson, L. Garioch, A. Davis, T. Hancock, R. Garioch, J. Violi, G. McCubbin, B. Liddell.

NTPs went to N. Cavallo on the Mildura Irrig’n fourth (160cms); L. Ball on the Zilzie Wines seventh (480cms); J. Violi on the Riverside 12th (380cms); and L. Garioch on the Riverside 18th.

VETERANS

The Sunraysia Veterans’ Golf Association season starts at Mildura Golf Club on Monday, March 5.

All veterans (over 55 years) are invited to play for a yearly subscription of $10.

Games are played on the first Monday of each month at local clubs. Players are encouraged to be at the clubs at 9am for a 9.30am start.

If players haven’t got a partner or a four, captain Noel Rodgers will arrange one.

President Jim Banks invites all veterans for a round of golf and lunch afterwards to join in the friendly atmosphere.

WENTWORTH GC

Tuesday was the ladies nine-hole summer competition and was won by Raelene Curry with 49 12.1/2 36.1/2.

Runner-up Helen Russell scored 54 15.1/2 38.1/2.

Thursday’s stableford was won by junior Matt Bottomley from runner-up Bill Murray.

NTPs went to J. Stephens on the second; G. King on the eighth; and P. Weuffen on the 12th. Balls were won by Jim Tunkin, John Stephens and Brian Curry.

Saturday was stroke for the monthly medal and ladies plate. Winners for the men were Mark Lyall on 80 14 66 from runner-up Ron Lyell on 75 6 69.

For the ladies, Val Cranwell-Smith with 92 20 72 won from runner-up Lee Bottomley on 88 15 73.

NTPs were N. Thomas on the second; R. Lyell on the eighth; D. Rowsell on the 12th; and B. Curry on the 17th.

Ball winners were J. Jacobs, M. Summers, B. Curry, L. Smith, F. Campbell, J. Stephens, and N. Thomas. Putting was won by Noel Thomas with 25 putts.

Coming up, Thursday is a stableford, Saturday is a stroke for the president’s cup, and Tuesday is a nine-hole summer competition for the ladies.
