SUNRASYIA Bicycle Users Group is frustrated Mildura Rural City Council has decided to drop the city’s cyclist hub project.

The club’s 35 plus members believe Sunraysia cyclists are getting a raw deal and said council was not providing adequate bicycle infrastructure.

For the past year, council has debated suitable sites within the city to build a bicycle hub. When councillors could not agree on a location, council voted to abandon the program.

The State Government’s Department of Transport promised $184,000 towards the proposed construction, council also agreed to provide funding – bringing the total budget to $365,000.

The project would have provided cyclists with shower and toilet facilities, bicycle stands, drinking fountains, change and locker rooms.
