CHASING down Usain Bolt may be easier than chasing some of the monster targets set in Sunraysia cricket this week.
Mildura West and Mildura East have a huge fight on their hands, West to reach Workers-Gol Gol’s 370, and East to topple Merbein South’s 287.
A giant 172 to Workers skipper Andrew Petrie, along with 57 to Aiden Calarco and 41 not out to Simon Groves saw the away team make the highest score for Sunraysia cricket this season.
Considering the young West batting line-up has not passed 200 once this season, it’s a total they will likely struggle to get near.
The likes of Chris Williams, captain Nathan Green, Damon Healy and youngster Jayden Zanoni will need to step up if West are to get close to the mammoth total.
Adam Thomson led Merbein South to their total with 93.
Mark White (51) and Aaron Finch (37) also chipped in with good starts.
The Saints are well on top on the ladder and East are sitting a game and a half clear in fourth place from Coomealla-Wentworth.
A miraculous win would all but guarantee East a position in the top four come finals time.
While at the Mildura Secondary College, Coomealla-Wentworth’s finals hopes will go on the line when they resume play against the Mildura Settlers.
The Blues were dismissed for 168 last week inside of 60 overs with Adam Shepherd (4/51) and Mark Kerr (4/21) doing the damage with the ball.
At the halfway mark, the Setts are in the box seat only requiring another 109 runs for victory, sitting on 2/60 with Luke Stanbrook and Mark Kerr at the crease.
In all likelihood, the make-up of the top four will be settled this weekend with the only thing left to decide the positioning.
