Best fishing in two years: Good catches of redfin, golden perch and Murray cod along river

IT seems things are really starting to fire in our local waters as anglers enjoy some of the best fishing seen in almost two seasons.

Swan Hill has many options, with the first of these being a great run of redfin and golden perch feeding in the local lakes and channels.

Lake Charm has good numbers of large redfin up to a kilo caught on small yabbies and minnows.

Some anglers are landing cricket score catches with a couple of lucky fishos bagging more than a hundred solid fish in an afternoon’s fishing.

Kangaroo Lake is also fishing well for golden perch on lures, with shallow divers and spinnerbaits working best.

A few good redfin have also been caught at this location on bait of yabbies and shrimp.

Lake Boga is producing good numbers of redfin on bait and lures with blades working exceptionally well either cast and retrieved from the bank or boat.

The smaller blades seem to be the best with a wide range of colours proving effective.

In the Murray, good numbers of golden perch have been biting ,as have a few smaller cod.

The best areas, according to local tackle shop owner Jim Credlin, have been upstream around the floodway and most fish are being caught on bait.

Credlin also says lures should be starting to work as the water is clearing in the Murray.

Other rivers too are starting to fish well and the Wakool River above Kyalite is no exception.

Good numbers of large golden perch have been biting on bait and the capture of several cod to almost 70cm has anglers excited with the prospect this river might hold over the coming season.

Of course carp are still about in huge numbers and catfish catches seem to be on the rise.

Murray cod are starting to show at other locations, and Ross Harrison from Got One Mildura was more than keen to share his latest cod catching exploits.

Ross and his wife Kate caught no less than four solid Murray cod trolling lures in just a few short hours on the water.

He was reluctant to divulge the exact location, instead saying it was somewhere near Mildura.

Some good-sized golden perch have also been caught in this area on lures and bait, as have numerous catfish and carp.

Downstream of Wentworth to Fort Courage, good numbers of golden perch, carp and catfish continue to bite on bait.

The dirty water flowing from the Darling River has slowed the lure fishing a little in this area, but some fish are still hitting both dark and fluoro patterns.

Word has it a few good cod have also been caught on lures, but those in the know are reluctant to divulge too much information.

It seems that most areas are fishing very well and anglers should be content that we have so many excellent angling opportunities happening in our local waters.
