Our stars: Four from Mildura in show

01 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
MELBOURNE musical Starbound had a cast of 60 and four of them were from Mildura.

Homegrown talents – Sam Puku, Ross Chisari, both 19, Adele Carrazza, 15, and Reuben Vatikani, 18 – made it into the show which was produced by Jason and Georgie Parker and recently held at Scotch College theatre.

The production was challenging, but a lot of fun according to Reuben.

“We had about 18 songs that we learned in two weeks, we had professionals come in and we had a dance choreographer from Ms Saigon; and I think he did Jersey Boys as well, so it was pretty awesome working with those professionals,” he said.

“We also had professional actors and choreographers from shows, so it’s probably one of the best experiences possible to start the new year.”

Starbound is a musical theatre performance featuring young adults aged 14 to 21.

The show features 18 songs from Broadway including, In the Heights, Shrek the Musical, Les Miserables, Cry Baby the Musical, Sweet Charity and Songs for a New World.

Reuben was also in Starbound last year.

This year he played a few characters including Uncle Fester from the Addams Family.

The 18-year-old finished up at St Joseph’s College and is now pursuing his dreams.

“I am moving to Melbourne to study a BA of Applied Music.

“I’m really excited and I can’t wait to start chasing my dreams and start a future with music. I will be happy with wherever music takes me.”
