Nine Sunraysia students will compete in Melbourne next weekend at the state finals of National History Challenge.

A total of 21 students from four district schools took part in the Sunraysia region final.

Judging was held last week at the Mildura Senior College.

Students who participated were from Red Cliffs Secondary College, Irymple Secondary College, St Paul’s Primary School and Mildura South Primary School.

The National History Challenge is an Australia-wide competition where students research a topic on Australian history and how it relates to the competition theme.

This year’s theme was Celebrations, Memories and History.

Students can work individually or in pairs, and can present their work as an essay, website, Power Point, performance or 3D museum display.

Some of the topics covered this year included the America’s Cup yacht race, former tennis champion Pat Rafter, the 50th Jubilee of Red Cliffs, Australia Day, the late eye specialist Fred Hollows, the Chaffey Brothers, the platypus, the Olympics, Sorry Day and singer Helen Reddy.
