 Hidden ‘wrecks’ mystery

Hidden ‘wrecks’ mystery

31 Jul, 2010 05:00 AM
A KEEN Cardross angler believes he may have caught a real mystery on his high-tech fish finder at Mildura.

Jamie Robinson claims he has found a massive paddle steamer forever moored to the bed of the Murray River, just opposite the Mildura Wharf.

Directly opposite that ghostly shape, adjacent to the Buronga caravan park, is another “ship-like structure”.

Mr Robinson believes the second ship is a barge, the identity again which has been lost to history.

He is hoping that by making his recent finds public, some history buff may be able to put a name to the vessel.

The removal of Mildura’s unique weir for building works in the past week has seen many people lining the banks to see usually submerged wrecks and rubbish exposed to daylight once more.

But Mr Robinson took his side-scan pictures several weeks ago when the water depth over the “paddle steamer” was 8.5 metres and six metres above the “barge”.

The Robinson family is more serious than most about fishing and Mr Robinson has won sponsorship and even trophies at well-known fishing classics.

He manages to find time away from his nursery business to pursue his passion on the water.
