No sign of leaning

IT has been more than two weeks since election day but Member for Mallee John Forrest says there are still no signs who will come out on top.

With Labor and the Coalition both falling short of the 76 seats needed for a majority in the federal House of Representatives, the three independent MPs – Bob Katter, Rob Oakeshott and Tony Windsor – are expected to decide today who forms government.

Mr Forrest first predicted the process could take a fortnight, but yesterday said he still had no clue who the rural independents were likely to side with.

“The independents said they would make a decision today, but I would be surprised if they did,” he said.

“It’s taking far too long; we’re into the third week. We’ve just got to wait out the process.

“Nobody knows what will happen.

“I’ve resolved to stay out of it and let them decide in their own time.”

Mr Forrest said the entire process had been interesting to watch unfold.

“It’s certainly unusual.
