A MILDURA man is lucky to be alive after crashing his car into a paddock at Merbein South yesterday morning.
Police say the 25-year-old, the vehicle’s sole occupant, had been travelling west along the Sturt Highway when he veered off the right-hand side of the road about 2am.
It is believed the man lost control of his white Ford Futura which rolled a number of times before crashing through a paddock fence.
The car’s bonnet was found about 50 metres from the vehicle.
The crash happened about 26 kilometres from Mildura.
The man was taken to Mildura Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition where he was treated for facial and chest injuries, according to an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson.
A hospital spokesperson was unavailable to comment on the man’s condition yesterday afternoon.
Sergeant Narelle Kolpin from Mildura Police said the cause of the crash was still under investigation.
The designated speed is 100km/h per hour but police do not yet know how fast the man was travelling.
Numerous items were found strewn across the crash site including a bottle of Joop! Go Eau de Toilette, a shoe, work-related papers and several empty bottles.
