‘Give public details’: Councillor wants housing unit information so it doesn’t happen again

23 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
COUNCILLOR Max Thorburn wants all the information council has about Deakin Avenue’s controversial social housing units made public.

The Mildura Rural City councillor will raise his concerns about the two-storey building at tonight’s monthly council meeting.

He will question council’s involvement in the project and ask why councillors were not given the opportunity to object to it.

He wants to ensure no such development is ever built in Mildura again.

“I’m trying to ascertain exactly how much was known within the council building and why wasn’t that information conveyed to councillors at the time,” Cr Thorburn said yesterday.

“We’ve got to find out first, how it did eventuate and then go from there, so that we ensure it doesn’t ever happen again.

“I could ask them behind the scenes, but I really think the public deserves to know the answers and I want the answer to be a public answer.

“The people concerned about the development should have all the information – whatever information council had should be made available to them.”
