Councillor called for an investigation into colleagues

11 Jun, 2010 11:04 AM
Cr VERNON Knight was yesterday named as the Mildura Rural City councillor who called for an investigation into the affairs of two of his colleagues.

However, Cr Susan Nichols says she holds no grudges towards Cr Knight whose written request instigated legal proceedings against Cr Nichols and Cr Mark Eckel for conflict of interest.

Cr Nichols yesterday pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to disclose a conflict while serving on Wentworth Shire Council.

She was placed on a six-month good behaviour bond without conviction or fine.

Cr Knight was in meetings late yesterday and was unavailable for comment.

Last month Cr Eckel, also avoided conviction, but was ordered to donate $1000 to Mildura Base Hospital and pay $2000 in court costs for breaching the Local Government Act.
