MILDURA Rural City Council has acknowledged that available parking at The Alfred Deakin Centre is inadequate during times of peak use.
Council has received a petition from disgruntled residents about the “perceived lack of accessible parking” available at the centre.
A copy of the petition, which contains 29 signatures, has been distributed to councillors.
According to a report prepared by corporate general manager Mandy Whelan to be put to council tonight, the car parking capacity provided at The Alfred Deakin Centre is in excess of the original planning approval provided for the complex.
Ms Whelan said the available parking had been enhanced by both the addition of car parks near Cedar Avenue and the relocation of disabled car parking to be as close as practical to the main Twelfth Street entrance.
“It is acknowledged that at peak times the parking capacity at the centre is inadequate and that parking needs to be accommodated on nearby streets, however for the majority of the centre’s operating hours the car parking capacity is adequate,” she said.
