Burfitt goes into bat for cure

23 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
SUNRAYSIA people will have a chance to get their mitts on a cricket bat signed by former Australian cricketers.

Terry Alderman, Greg Matthews, Ryan Campbell, Jimmy Maher and Zimbabwean batsman Murray Goodwin have signed a bat belonging to Mildura’s John Burfitt so he can raise money for one of his many fundraising initiatives.

His current mission is to raise money for Easymix 1467’s Daniel Brewer, who is participating in the World’s Greatest Shave, as well as to try to collect $1000 to help two flood affected families in Rochester.

The bat was signed at Rochester’s inaugural Water to Wickets Tour last weekend. Mr Burfitt was invited by the town’s Chamber of Commerce as a thank you for volunteering during last year’s floods.

He is unsure how or when he will auction the bat yet, but he is open to suggestions.

“I had a wonderful time down at Rochester and I got all the cricketers to sign the bat,” Mr Burfitt said.

He even met one of idols at the event and watched the cricketers play a Twenty20 match.
